GUJARAT UNIVERSITY – ORIENTATION COURSE IN TOBACCO CESSATION CERTIFICATE COURSE Scholarship BATCH OF JULY 2023 Conducted by ICanCaRe Academy

We welcome the seventh Scholarship batch of 2022-23 for the Gujarat University accredited ORIENTATION COURSE IN TOBACCO CESSATION (OCTC) certificate course (www.icancare.in/academy/octc) for Capacity Building for Tobacco Cessation and Oral Care in India. The Scholarship is funded by Bajaj Electricals Foundation through the I CAN WIN Foundation as part of #SAVEtheyouth campaign.

The 7th BAJAJ OCTC batch is of selected doctors from various disciplines – dental, Head and neck oncologist, Surgical oncology, Psychiatry, ENT, Psychology, Radiotherapy, counselors, Nursing, etc. Interestingly we have representation from the Ganga Cancer Centre Hospital, Kanchipuram the rural cancer hospital in the South, and a large representation from Odisha.

The Orientation Course in Tobacco Cessation (OCTC) helps understand the intricacies of the complex tobacco cessation intervention. It is an intensive 4 weeks course with 8 hours of exclusive live sessions online 2 hours once a week.

The participants of the course are exposed to practical clinically validated digitalized protocol to set up or scale up tobacco cessation practice and have the opportunity to:

Tobacco cessation is a complex intervention. Tobacco (smoking, chewing, or vaping) has the highest addiction factor. It needs specialized training, a deep understanding, and learning to practice the intricacies of tobacco cessation intervention to ensure a successful outcome for a tobacco-addicted person. ICanCaRe has pioneered and created a clinically validated simplified digital tobacco cessation protocol intervention system. ICanCaRe Academy’s motto empower, enhance, and earn introduced three courses for capacity building for Tobacco Cessation. Sensitization Talk on Tobacco SAVE The Youth with IGNOU Patna

Sensitization program on “FOSTERING COLLABORATION TO SAVE THE YOUTH from TOBACCO ADDICTION” as part of NASHA MUKHT BHARAT was organised in by ICanCaRe and I CAN WIN FOUNDATION in collaboration with IGNOU Patna, Darbhanga and Bhagalpur on 22nd June 2023.

ICanCaRe SAVE the Youth Quiz was conducted by Quiz masters Dr. Pravesh Singh and Mrs. Sonal Bhatia, Leaders Tobacco MARSHAL.

The program was online and live on Facebook and You tube attended by students and Faculty of IGNOU across the state of Bihar.

The program was initiated by Dr Abhilash Nayak, Sr. Regional Director of IGNOU Patna and supported by directors from Bhagalpur and Darbhanga. The program was coordinated by Ms. Shruti Agrawal of ICanCaRe and Mr. Deepak Panda.

The Program was presided by Dr. Abhilash Nayak and conducted by Mrs. Shruti Agrawal.

Chief Guest for the occasion was the Dr.  Umesh Chandra Pandey, Director, Regional Services Division, IGNOU, Maidan Garhi, New Delhi-110068

The keynote speaker, Dr. Pawan Gupta M.ch. Director MAX Institute of Cancer Care, Vaishali, and Founder of ICanCaRe leading the SAVE the youth Campaign provided a comprehensive understanding of addiction and equip participants with the necessary knowledge to recognize early signs. The most important intervention was to have a sustained effort in all the education Institutes by adopting SAVE the Youth campaign and capacity building across society by TOBACCO MARSHALs in the Institute for a sustained effort which will bring the desired change. TOBACCO MARSHALS are empowered with knowledge equipped and ready to work for society. It was emphasized that not a single puff or chew, no experimentation. BE CAREFUL AND FEARFUL of the people taking tobacco or drugs, these substances are not socially or professionally acceptable anymore, and anyone using these drugs is a social outcast and not cool but a fool.

The faculties of IGNOU were urged to join the Basic Course in Tobacco Control by ICanCaRe academy to be #TobaccoMARSHALs in Society to #SAVEtheyouth.

116 registered for the Quiz. The top 20 were awarded certificates for the same.

Certified Tobacco Cessation Specialists also participated in the program.

Panel Discussion on Addiction and Prevention – Nasha Mukt Bharat by IIM – Jammu

An insightful panel discussion on “Recognising the Signs of Addiction: Early Intervention and Prevention Strategies.” was organized by the Digi-Health Club of the Indian Institute of Management – Jammu. On 26th June 2023 online. 106 participated in the online program.

The event was to shed light on the crucial aspects of addiction recognition and explore practical strategies for early intervention and prevention.

Distinguished panelists who shared their expertise and insights during the panel discussion, included:

· Panelist 1: Dr. Arati Chowdhary (Oral Physician and Dental Oncologist at SRJ CBCC Cancer Hospital & Research Centre)

· Panelist 2: Ms. Pallavi Singh (Program Director, JK Society for Promotion of Youth and Masses)

· Panelist 3: Dr. Pawan Gupta ( Director- Surgical Oncology, Max Healthcare)

· Moderator: IIM Jammu/AIIMS Jammu

The panel discussion provided a comprehensive understanding of addiction and equip participants with the necessary knowledge to recognize early signs.
