ICanCaRe Academy’s motto empower, enhance, and earn introduced three courses for capacity building for Tobacco Cessation. The courses accredited by Gujarat University help set up or scale up tobacco cessation practices
गाजियाबाद। केआईईटी ग्रुप आफ इंस्टीट्यूशंस ने केआईईटी कैंपस में सभी शाखाओं के प्रॉक्टर, रेक्टर और एक प्रयास क्लब के छात्र सदस्यों के लिए तंबाकू मार्शल प्रशिक्षण कार्यक्रम का आयोजन किया। इस सत्र को प्रख्यात वक्ताओं, डॉ. पवन गुप्ता (संस्थापक आईकैनकेयर, निदेशक सर्जिकल आॅन्कोलॉजी मैक्स वैशाली), डॉ. नीता कुमार (वैज्ञानिक ई आईसीएमआर), सोनल भाटिया (एसी सदस्य इनर व्हील डिस्ट्रिक्ट-310) द्वारा दिया गया। यह प्रशिक्षण कार्यक्रम डॉ. ए. गर्ग, निदेशक और डॉ. मनोज गोयल, संयुक्त निदेशक केआईईटी ग्रुप आॅफ इंस्टीट्यूशन के अटूट और गतिशील नेतृत्व में केआईईटी ग्रुप आॅफ इंस्टीट्यूशंस का प्रयास है। कार्यक्रम की शुरूआत डॉ. अनिल अहलावत, डीन एकेडमिक्स द्वारा इसी विषय पर प्रशिक्षण और जागरूकता कार्यक्रमों के महत्व पर स्वागत भाषण के साथ हुई। सत्र में तंबाकू के दुरुपयोग से संबंधित सभी पहलुओं को शामिल किया गया जिसमें हानिकारक धूम्रपान को रोकने हेतु, गैर-तंबाकू धूम्रपान उत्पादों जैसे हर्बल सिगरेट और हर्बल बीड़ी के बारे अवगत कराया गया और साथ ही इसे बंद करने के लिए सहायता के रूप में विपणन किया गया था। डॉ. पवन गुप्ता ने किशोरों के बीच ‘मादक द्रव्यों के सेवन’ पर विचार-विमर्श किया,वहीं दूसरी ओर डॉ. नीता कुमार ने कुछ परियोजनाओं का सुझाव दिया जिनका उपयोग तंबाकू के आदी व्यक्ति की मदद के लिए किया जा सकता है। मिनाक्सी अग्रवाल ने कैप और बैज वितरित किए और प्रतिभागियों को तंबाकू मार्शल के रूप में प्रेरित किया। कार्यक्रम का समापन डॉ. प्रवेश, प्रोफेसर ईसीई विभाग, अध्यक्ष, ‘एक प्रयास’ क्लब द्वारा सभी गणमान्य व्यक्तियों, प्रमुखों, संकाय सदस्यों और छात्रों को धन्यवाद ज्ञापन के साथ हुआ।
For the first time in India, an Institute initiated the TOBACCO MARSHAL program on the campus. Selected faculties and students who are Wardens or in charge of hostels and departments and members of the Ek Prays club at KIET were empowered as TOBACCO MARSHALs.
The vision of Director Dr. A.Garg was ably promoted by Prof. Dr. Pravesh Singh and the much-needed empowered tobacco MARSHAL are being created to make the future of student secure and respectable. The program is supported by Dr. Anil Ahlawat, Dean Academy, and Dr. Satish Kumar, Dean SW.
Prof. Dr. Pravesh Singh – The first TOBACCO MARSHAL of India initiated the activities at KIET by first establishing the Club – Ek Prayas at the campus. With that multiple activities were done on campus. The need for empowering the club members was felt. Thus, with ICanCaRe Academy the TOBACCO MARSHAL training was done.
30 candidates took training.
Dr. Pawan Gupta M.Ch., Dr. Neeta Kumar, Mrs. Sonal Bhatia, and Mrs. Minaxi Agrawal were represented by ICanCaRe to share knowledge and experience.
Mrs. Sonal Bhatia, the leader of Tobacco MARSHAL, feels that women are the worst sufferers due to tobacco use in society. She successfully made 1000 women tobacco MARSHALs in 5 months, of which 550 girls from villages were trained as MINI Tobacco MARSHALs.
Academic Director Dr. Ahlawat said, “Thank you for the insightful workshop. Our students and staff are all excited to start tobacco control on the campus and hopefully we would make a definite impact on the future of our students”.
4 hours of intensive discussion covered the 8R aspects of Tobacco and empowered each of the participants as TOBACCO MARSHALs.
The most important focus of the session was how to handle a person who is taking tobacco- the conversation that needs to follow with the person engages and guides them towards making him tobacco-free.
Emphasis was also on protecting self and family, especially daughters so that they do not end up with a tobacco user in life getting tormented for their entire life.

Tobacco MARSHAL is a prestige and a recognition of personal social responsibility against the most dreaded disease in the WORLD.
With the presence of TOBACCO MARSHAL on the campus, it is going to be a major ripple effect at campus and outside the campus.
Dr. Neeta Kumar, Senior Scientist ICMR did some much needed relaxation exercises and practical intervention. Suggested some surveys that can be done.
Minaxi Agrawal distributed the caps and Badges and motivated the participants as TOBACCO MARSHALs.
The August – September 2022 batch of Certified Tobacco Cessation Specialists is a very special batch. Although a small batch, it consists of doctors from various disciplines- Pulmonologist, ENT and Head neck Onco-surgeon, Pedodontics, Oral medicine and Radiologist, and dental surgeons. Each one as much enthusiastic to learn more and adopt tobacco cessation in their practice.
We welcome each one of them into the ICanCaRe family as they join the #SAVEtheyouth campaign as Certified Tobacco Cessation Specialists.
Certified Tobacco Cessation Specialists are the most important link for #SAVEtheyouth Campaign as they are at the pinnacle and trained extensively for intervention to successfully help quit tobacco for their patients.
CTCS course is accredited by Gujarat University and the only such course in India giving practical experience, ICanCaRe APP for digitalized protocol intervention.
