Oral Cancer & Tobacco Awareness Program at Central Electronics Limited (CEL), Sahibabad

An Oral Cancer and Tobacco Awareness session was successfully conducted at the Central Electronics Limited (CEL), Sahibabad office for employees, reinforcing the urgent need for early detection and tobacco control at the workplace.

The awareness talk was delivered by Prof. Dr. Pawan Gupta, Senior Director – Surgical Oncology, MAX Institute of Cancer Care, Vaishali, and Dr. Supriya Wadhwa, Certified Tobacco Cessation Specialist and Ayurvedic Physician. The session emphasized a critical public health message: individuals who do not consume tobacco must actively become Tobacco Marshals—guiding, motivating, and supporting tobacco users to quit and ensuring timely referral to certified cessation and oral care services.

A key focus of the session was oral potentially malignant lesions (OPML). Participants were sensitized that OPML, if detected early, is 100% treatable, but if ignored, can progress to oral cancer over time. The speakers stressed the importance of vigilance, self-examination, and prompt screening. Employees were encouraged to use the ICanCare WhatsApp Oral Screening support (📱 9773856664) by sharing images of suspected oral lesions for expert review and guidance, and to connect with the ICanCare–MAX Oral Care Centre at MAX Vaishali for further management.

The program was initiated by Dr. Vinod Singh, CMO, CEL, and chaired by Dr. Rajat Garg, GM–HR, CEL, reflecting strong leadership commitment toward employee health and preventive oncology. The session witnessed enthusiastic participation from 103 employees, with active interaction and queries on tobacco cessation, oral screening, and preventive strategies.

Special acknowledgment is due to Mr. C. P. Yadav (MAX Institute of Cancer Care, Vaishali) for coordinating and facilitating the program.

This initiative aligns with MISSION STAGE ZERO – A War Against Oral Cancer, championed by ICanCare and I CAN WIN FOUNDATION, underscoring that early detection, timely intervention, and empowered community champions (Tobacco Marshals) are pivotal to preventing oral cancer and building a healthier, tobacco-free workforce.
